Meeting Leonardo where it all began

Leonardo da Vinci citizen of the world, but before that, citizen of the town of Vinci, in the rolling Tuscan hills.

The house where he was born is open again to the public from June 23, 2012 after painstaking restoration work and the installation of new museum displays.

This operation deploys the latest multimedia technology to offer a very "special" meeting with Leonardo: not only the famous painter and inventor, but also Leonardo the man, attached to nature and to his roots. And so Leonardo´s birthplace becomes the symbol of the ties between the artist and his home ground, and the place for discovering the biography of Leonardo da Vinci. Inside the house an interactive system enables to see and explore The Last Supper while the Leonardo Touch application allows visitors to discover da Vinci paintings. So if the Leonardo Museum, in the town centre of Vinci, documents the work of Leonardo the inventor and the engineer, the house of his birth is now the place for getting to know Leonardo the painter. The Genius himself wil welcome visitors: a life-size hologram lends its voice to an aged Leonardo who looks back on the past and makes a virtual return to Anchiano.

The house, 3 km outside Vinci in a charming hilly landscape, is linked to the town by the Green Route, an ancient path which winds its way through the centuries-old olive groves of Montalbano.

Leonardo country with the impressive old town of Vinci is part of Le Terre del Rinascimento, the district 30 km far from Florence where you can enjoy history, art and nature.
